Is this really how taxes work

Is this really how taxes work?
How Taxes Work . . . This is a VERY simple way to understand the tax laws. Read on -- it does make you think!! Let's put tax cuts in terms everyone can understand. Suppose that every day, ten men go out for dinner. The bill for all ten comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this: The first four men — the poorest — would pay nothing; the fifth would pay $1, the sixth would pay $3, the seventh $7, the eighth $12, the ninth $18, and the tenth man — the richest — would pay $59. That's what they decided to do. The ten men ate dinner in the restaurant every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement — until one day, the owner threw them a curve (in tax language a tax cut). "Since you are all such good customers," he said, "I'm going to reduce the cost of your daily meal by $20." So now dinner for the ten only cost $80.00. The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes. So the first four men were unaffected. They would still eat for free. But what about the other six — the paying customers? How could they divvy up the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his "fair share?" The six men realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from everybody's share, Then the fifth man and the sixth man would end up being PAID to eat their meal. So the restaurant owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man's bill by roughly the same amount, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay. And so the fifth man paid nothing, the sixth pitched in $2, the seventh paid $5, the eighth paid $9, the ninth paid $12, leaving the tenth man with a bill of $52 instead of his earlier $59. Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued to eat for free. But once outside the restaurant, the men began to compare their savings. "I only got a dollar out of the $20," declared the sixth man who pointed to the tenth. "But he got $7!" "Yeah, that's right," exclaimed the fifth man, "I only saved a dollar, too . . . It's unfair that he got seven times more than me!". "That's true!" shouted the seventh man, "why should he get $7 back when I got only $2? The wealthy get all the breaks!" "Wait a minute," yelled the first four men in unison, "We didn't get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!" The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up. The next night he didn't show up for dinner, so the nine sat down and ate without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered, a little late what was very important. They were FIFTY-TWO DOLLARS short of paying the bill! Imagine that! And that, boys and girls, journalists and college instructors, is how the tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up at the table anymore. There are lots of good restaurants in Monaco and the Caribbean.

SIGH... It's so sad when NeoCons can't come up with anything original, they simply copy and paste their chain emails... http://www.snopes.com/business/taxes/howtaxes.asp
2 :
You just killed modern liberalism with regards to capitalism and taxes.
3 :
People pretend it is but the most cherished time in American history for many cons was probably the 1950s, during which, gasp, the marginal tax rate was 91%. I wonder how our country even functioned with all the rich people gone?
4 :
Exactly.

I'm taking a year of economics in college when this is all I need to know about taxes!!! Thanks internet for dumbing it down into something even I, a humble public college student can understand.

you just kicked democrats where it hurts. nice
7 :
I understand, I have been the tenth man in the past. I will not be one of the first nine.
8 :
you didn't mention how much they get paid or why? and I know why you didn't... because it would make the rich guy look REALLY bad... the rich man literally makes thousands, in your example... while paying the poor pennies... and the others only $2-$10 dollars a week... and he's complaining about 3 bucks? and then after they beat up the rich guy... they quit working for him... and he had ZERO income... with no workers... EDIT: in the end, the rich guy could have made MUCH more money, just letting the people keep the few bucks... and much more than the $52 they were short the next time... but instead, he lost thousands...

Whippledoink Van Zerplunkenfloobensnubble wishes to say, "what the heck." So, that's not how the tax system works. Whoever says so has it mixed up with how to make powdered goose dip...

I've seen this before, it is a very good example. There HAS to be a rich class, a poor class, and a middle class to make society work. It just depends on how you use it.

camp america my friend went and she said it was AMAZING holiday resort work is hard, and you don't get much money to do anything, and you have to take/hire your own equipment if you want to ski/snowboard, and most of the people there just spend their free time drinking too much.. though if that's what you want it can be pretty fun. monaco is nice but everything is really expensive there touring australia would be really fun but it'd cost a lot, and you'd have to persuade people to go with you as it's not the best idea to do it alone.

Be a nanny or au pair in London or Paris for the fall, do a winter season as a chalet helper in France, Austria or Switzerland, then go and tour Australia late spring and early summer, maybe scuba diving between Cairns and Sydney. Why? You will go to one of the world's coolest city and not have to pay to stay, you can learn how to ski/board really well, you'll get to visit a continent you will probably never have the vacation time to visit again - and Oz is really cool, especially Sydney - and you will see the world and get to see things from a new perspective, maybe learn a language and have picked up a few friends and life skills along the way.

For make-up, you should by make-up there, as it will be good quiality && they might give you a discount. also, you would be modelling it for them as everyone who goes there would be speaking to you. You could ask the salon, or go on youtube for natural make-up tips as they have alot. For hair, just a nice, natural layered look is all you need and if you wanted you could straighten it.
2 :
wow, you dying!!! how about simple eye makeup with green liner and brown and gold shadow. You can have lip liner along with the lipstick or skip both and wear lip gloss. You can always try a side part, it makes you look different. For clothes you can try to wear big earrings with your hair pulled back. Or get side swept bangs.
3 :
another great store is The Limited and even Target has gotten alot cuter clothes. The way you style your hair depends on your age. Curling your hair is always really cute. For the first day do your makeup how you normally do it and maybe ask the other girls at the salon any tips they have because they've been working there longer. GOOD LUCK AT YOUR NEW JOB!

Damn, that must be one high-paying receptionist job if you can afford to shop at Club Monaco. I would suggest that you spend more of your budget on the waist up, because that is what will be visible to your customers most of the time. (In other words, buy a cheaper pair of jeans or slacks and spend the extra on a better quality jacket or top). I'd also give some thought to ease of care -- you will be working in an environment where people are walking around with chemicals, dyes, shampoos, etc. I wouldn't be surprised if you are expected to help keep the salon tidy when you're not busy. Get stuff that is washable (not stuff that has to be dry-cleaned after one wearing). As for your hair -- leave it for now, and get to know the stylists! I'm sure they will have great ideas for you. If they have apprentices, you might even get the cut for free. Good luck and congrats on the new job.

The stores you mentioned should be good options. I recommend doing your hair and makeup simple but cute for the first few days until you get a feel for what your coworkers do. For great hair and makeup demos, check out www.pursebuzz.com

Do you have to work on weekends doing retail

Do you have to work on weekends doing retail?
I was looking for a retail job in which we have a local mall near where I live. We have a Nordstroms, Jc Penny and Macys. We also have a Banana Republic, Express Club Monaco, and J Crew all being higher end retailers. There is also Gap, Urban Outfitters Ambercrombie, Hollister, American Eagle Outfitters, and Aerostopale. Plus Pac Sun, Zumirez, Dockers, Michael Brandon, Levi's and Guess. There are so many different places I could work at our local mall. I don't have any retail experience.I'm not available to work on Saturdays. I would only be available on Sundays sometimes. Like during Christmas season I could work on Sundays. During the summer I can't work on weekends. I was looking for a job where I could work Afternoons and Early evenings. I was looking for a job where I could work Monday, Wednesday and possibly Friday. This is tough since most employers want you to work on weekends. I would be available say on Mondays and Wednesdays like 2pm to 7 or 2pm to 9 or something like that. I don't think I'm being unresonable as During the afternoon as evenings is when people come in to to shop and this is when I would plan to work. I don't want to be working mornings anyways. American Eagle Outfitters is one of the few I know from other reviews doesn't require weekends. The big problem is many like a Macy's want you to work weekends and be available at all times. American Eagle Outfitters is one of the few I heard where they try to work around your school schedule since younger people shop there and they higher younger people. I'm 27 so i'm at this point where I might be a little old to be working at place like Ambercrombie and to work somewhere like J Crew a 27 year old might not be the person you would see in one of there stores.

Yes.
2 :
Short answer No, I don't work on weekends.
3 :
Is this a serious question? If the employer wants you for weekends, then yes it is required. If not, then no. But to work in retail, you have to be somewhat flexible on your hours. From what you described, you're not. Good luck to you.
4 :
With the way the economy is today open availiablity is the thing employers are looking for and retail is up and down most of the demand is for the weekends though but if you have that many restrictions make sure you say it at your second interview or something b/c im a manager at a major retailer and that wouldn't even be a cosideration it seems like you need to much time off and customers shop when they want not around the employers schedule
5 :
Whenever you are available, just go to whichever retailer of your choosing and present yourself and let the Law of Attraction work its magic, and it surely will.
